California quail is Nevada's western-Nevada quail, the geographic mirror of Gambel's quail's southern-desert range: NDOW's own habitat description, generic across species pages, mentions scrub landscapes, open woodlands, and valleys where water is present, but independent sourcing converges consistently on the western third of the state, the Sierra Nevada/Carson Range foothills, Washoe County, and the irrigated valleys along the Truckee, Carson, and Walker river systems, with Lahontan Valley and Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area named specifically as brushy riparian/agricultural-edge concentration points. NDOW's own species page's county list (all 17 counties) is boilerplate common to every Nevada species page and is not treated as a regional signal on its own.
