Privacy

Points Afield doesn't require an account, and there's no payment to collect. This is everything we do and don't collect today.

Analytics. We use PostHog to understand which pages are useful. It records page visits, general location (from your IP address, not stored precisely), device and browser type, and how you move between pages on the site. We don't sell this data or share it with advertisers.

Hosting logs. Our host (Render) keeps standard technical logs — things like IP address and request timing — for security and reliability. This is normal web-server behavior, not something specific to Points Afield.

Cookies. PostHog sets a first-party cookie to recognize repeat visits. If you sign up for the Upland beta, we also set a first-party cookie (pa_signup_upland_beta) so we don't ask you again on later visits — it's a plain yes/no marker, not your email address or any other personal data. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Email signup. If you sign up for the Upland beta or Big Game notify-me list, we collect your email address and, if you write one in, a short question. We use this only to send you two emails — one to confirm your address, and one when access opens — and store it in our own database, not a third-party mailing list. The confirmation email is sent through Resend, our transactional email provider. Every email we send includes a working unsubscribe link.

If you don't confirm. Signups require confirming your email within 10 days. If you don't, we delete your email address. We keep a record that a question was asked, so we can understand how many people had one, but remove the actual text you wrote — this happens automatically, and once it does, we can no longer find your specific submission to act on a deletion request. If you'd like your question removed before then, email us and we can still find it.

If you unsubscribe. Your email is kept, marked as unsubscribed, for up to 12 months — so a database restore or a future change of email provider can't accidentally re-add you — then deleted.

Deleting your data. Email contact@pointsafield.com and we'll delete your signup. If it's already been de-linked (see above), we won't have a way to find it by address — reach out before the 10-day window closes if that matters to you.

Washington consumer health data. We don't design any part of this site — including the optional question you write in when you sign up — to collect "consumer health data" as defined by Washington's My Health My Data Act, and we don't ask health-adjacent questions. If you voluntarily include something health-related in the question you write in, we may incidentally come into possession of it. If that happens, or you'd like to check whether we hold anything like that, email contact@pointsafield.com and we'll delete it.

If this changes. When we add accounts, payment, or anything else that touches personal information more directly, this page will change to reflect it before that happens.
