Kansas regulations do not carve out a separate scaled-quail season or bag limit; scaled quail occur at low densities in sand-sage prairie of southwest KS and are legally taken under the single generic statewide Quail season/bag limit (same as northern bobwhite). Low confidence this deserves its own product-facing entry vs. folding into bobwhite quail, flagged for review.
Scaled (blue) quail are a fringe species in Kansas, confined to the extreme southwestern corner of the state's Southern High Plains region, where sand-sagebrush prairie habitat extends up from the species' core range in the Texas/Oklahoma panhandles and eastern New Mexico/Colorado. KDWP's 2025 Upland Bird Forecast notes the species is present only in this region and remains at low densities even there.
No scaled-quail-specific survey exists. KDWP's quail whistle-count and brood-survey instruments track "quail" generally (bobwhite plus the scaled/blue quail of far southwest KS) without a species-level breakout, and scaled quail's outlook is folded into the same pending fall Upland Bird Forecast as bobwhite quail. Forecast still not published as of 2026-08-19.
