Restricted to the Greater Prairie Chicken Hunting Unit (northern/eastern KS); a separate Prairie Chicken Permit is required in addition to a hunting license. Fixed annual calendar dates (Sept 15 - Jan 31), unlike pheasant/quail which shift by weekday formula.
KDWP runs a real, active spring lek-count program (Prairie Chicken Lek Survey, 50 routes statewide — 33 within greater prairie-chicken range, 3 in the overlap zone with lesser prairie-chicken). Matches the "active monitoring, no dated report" pattern already established for four Colorado species and Illinois's prairie-chicken in prior Tier B passes: fresh WebSearch/WebFetch passes today (2026-08-19) found no report edition newer than 2014, and whether even a 2025 edition exists at all remains unresolved. Not closed as no_program since the program itself is real and ongoing, not absent.
