Season formula: "Saturday nearest October 14 and continuing for 45 days"; KDWP's own page computes 2026 dates explicitly. Bag limit confirmed from KDWP's regulation-summary bag-limit table: "Woodcock: 3 per day (3x the daily limit in possession)." HIP requirement inferred the same way as mourning dove.
Kansas sits at the western edge of the American woodcock's range and fall migration corridor, so the species is effectively an eastern-Kansas-only proposition — hunting-press sourcing is explicit that hunters "will need to focus their efforts in extreme eastern parts of the state," both because that's where the best moist-forest/riparian habitat is and because the birds don't reliably push further west. The only documented Kansas woodcock nesting record (Cink 1976, Kansas Ornithological Society Bulletin) is from Jefferson County in the northeast part of the state, consistent with this.
The Singing-ground Survey, which is the instrument behind every woodcock population figure, does not run routes in Kansas. There is no state-level woodcock trend to report.
