Statewide season.Bag limit confirmed verbatim from WI DNR's live regulations tool (Fall 2026-Spring 2027 edition).
Wisconsin DNR's own "Regional Bobwhite Quail and Cottontail Rabbit Survey" is unusually strong sourcing for this species: DNR field personnel and volunteers have run roadside whistling-count surveys along fixed transects in the species' primary range every year since 1949 (biennially since 1991). The report's own Figure 1 map shades Wisconsin's primary bobwhite quail range as a contiguous block running from west-central Wisconsin (Dunn, Eau Claire, Trempealeau counties) south through the Driftless Area (La Crosse, Monroe, Vernon, Crawford, Richland, Grant, Iowa counties) and into south-central Wisconsin (Sauk, Columbia, Adams, Waushara, Marquette, Green Lake counties), roughly 15 counties per the report's own text. This matches independent sourcing (the Wisconsin All-Bird Conservation Plan's species account) describing the species as now concentrated in southwestern Wisconsin, with scattered populations in the central and southeastern regions. This range geography has been tracked continuously since 1949.
WI DNR runs a real, if infrequent, Regional Bobwhite Quail and Cottontail Rabbit Survey (whistling-male call counts) -- editions confirmed found for 2015, 2019, and 2021 (2019: 0.003 whistling males/stop, down from 0.008 in 2017, a significant decline). A search on 2026-08-19 found no edition newer than 2021 -- active program, but no confirmed 2025 or 2026 report located.
