NOT statewide - limited to Northeast Box Elder County (unit ST1000) and Cache County (unit ST1001), largely private property. Columbian sharp-tailed grouse is, like sage-grouse, a Utah limited-entry hard-regulatory-zone case rather than a statewide season. The 2026-27 Waterfowl, Upland Game and Turkey Guidebook names exactly two hunt units: Northeast Box Elder County (ST1000) and Cache County (ST1001), with the guidebook noting the hunt takes place on land that is all or largely private property and encouraging hunters to secure landowner permission before obtaining a permit. As with sage-grouse, only 2 birds of either sex may be taken for the entire season, not a daily bag. UDWR also maintains an active occupied-lek GIS layer and an Antelope Island translocation/brood-stock program for the species. No named sub-areas within the two counties exist beyond the units themselves.
Columbian sharp-tailed grouse is a second limited-entry permit species; UDWR maintains an active occupied-lek GIS layer and an Antelope Island translocation/brood-stock program, but no standalone annual lek-count report comparable to the sage-grouse one exists (re-checked 2026-08-19). Monitoring is active; there is no dated report.
