Permit required (apply via utahdraws.com, code SHA for preference point; application period June 30-July 14, 2026). NOT statewide - limited to Northeast Box Elder County (unit ST1000) and Cache County (unit ST1001), largely private property. Only 2 birds of either sex may be taken for the entire season, not a daily bag.
Columbian sharp-tailed grouse is a second limited-entry permit species; UDWR maintains an active occupied-lek GIS layer and an Antelope Island translocation/brood-stock program, but no standalone annual lek-count report comparable to the sage-grouse one was found (re-checked 2026-08-19). Active monitoring confirmed, no dated report to publish.
