Season is nominally statewide, but UDWR's own 2022 Upland Game Management Plan is unusually direct that the real range is narrow: in Utah, these birds are only available in the northern region of the state, primarily on private lands. Utah sits at the southernmost edge of the species' North American range (the current Utah population is believed descended from birds spreading south from the Snake River drainage of Idaho and from Nevada, first documented in border counties in 1948, after an earlier 1911 introduction failed by 1940). The plan's Northern Region priorities section names the specific concentration precisely: an access-improvement objective targets landowners with upland species on properties in Eastern Box Elder County and Northern Cache County. Separately, the Central Region priorities section flags a possible small remnant population far to the southwest in the Ibapah Valley (western Tooele County, on the Nevada border). Huns were documented there as recently as the 1990s, with the plan noting there are some indications a small remnant population may still be there, though this is unconfirmed field observation rather than a monitored population, and the plan proposes it as a possible reintroduction/augmentation site rather than a confirmed current stronghold.
