DEEP publishes no zone map or density breakdown for woodcock, but does run a real geographic conservation program: the Young Forest Habitat Initiative concentrates young-forest habitat creation on state-controlled land within three state priority woodcock focus areas, each built around a WMA/state-forest core, targeting a stated 50% woodcock increase. Two of the three focus-area cores are now identified by name: Roraback WMA (Harwinton, Litchfield County), where a 2009 habitat project produced a documented four-fold increase in local woodcock abundance via radio-tagged-bird study, and Talbot WMA (Scotland, Windham County), confirmed by its own 2022-2031 management plan as sitting within one of the three focus areas, though without a site-specific outcome study published the way Roraback has. The third focus area's core site is not identified in any public material found. This is a habitat-targeting/access signal (where DEEP is actively building woodcock habitat), not a population-density map.
