AZGFD's own annual Small Game Forecast says pheasant were widely introduced across Arizona between 1913 and the 1970s, and that most of those introductions fared poorly. Today, per that forecast, the only wild population open to hunting with firearms is in the agricultural areas south of Yuma, with numbers low for several years due to increasingly clean farming practices, and hunters need landowner access permission since the habitat is private farmland. The regulatory zone (Unit 40B) and the biological population range are effectively the same place.
