Eastern Washington only; no season in Western Washington.
Gray partridge is, like chukar, Eastern-Washington-only (no Western WA season), but its habitat is the opposite of chukar's canyon breaks: open shrub-steppe and dryland grain agriculture on the Columbia Basin plateau and Waterville Plateau, not steep rocky terrain. WDFW's 2025 harvest data shows a tight cluster of Columbia Basin / north-central counties: Grant County led (602 birds), followed by Douglas (440), Okanogan (380), Yakima (154), Kittitas (133), Lincoln (129), Whitman (70), and Asotin (254), with WDFW's own District 5 hunting-prospects report (Grant/Adams counties) specifically naming the steep, brushy margins around Sun Lakes and Quincy Lakes as productive gray-partridge and chukar ground within that county. Western Washington counties and the drier southeastern wheat counties (Adams, Franklin, Benton, Spokane) all show zero or minimal harvest, confirming the species' footprint is the north-central Columbia Basin / Waterville Plateau band rather than the broader Palouse.
No formal population survey program exists for this species in this state.
