Eastern Washington only; no season in Western Washington.
Chukar in Washington is entirely an Eastern Washington species, and its huntable range is narrower still within Eastern Washington: steep, rocky, cheatgrass-covered river-breaks and canyon terrain along the Columbia, Yakima, Naches, and Snake Rivers, not the broad wheat/farmland habitat pheasant and gray partridge use. WDFW's 2025 harvest data bears this out precisely: Kittitas County led statewide (3,645 birds, 358 hunters), consistent with the Yakima River Canyon; Yakima (2,002), Chelan (1,463), and Douglas (1,218) County harvests track the Columbia River breaks around the Quilomene and Colockum Wildlife Areas and Sentinel Gap near Vantage; Asotin County (1,322) is the separate Snake River / Hells Canyon breaks population in the state's far southeastern corner; Grant County (1,092) rounds out the Columbia Basin canyon country. Counties without canyon-breaks terrain (all of Western Washington, plus flatter eastern counties like Adams, Franklin, Benton, Spokane, Whitman) show zero or near-zero harvest.
No formal population survey program exists for this species in this state.
