Nebraska runs a single bundled 'Dove' season/bag limit covering mourning, white-winged, and Eurasian collared-dove together (Eurasian collared-dove also separately huntable year-round outside this window, uncapped). Must be shot in flight. HIP registration required for all migratory bird hunters age 16+ in NE for the Sept. 1, 2026-July 31, 2027 cycle (per a July 20, 2026 NGPC press release).
NGPC calls doves "abundant statewide," and BONO (the agency's own ornithological reference) confirms breeding densities are "uniform over most the state" — but names one real, sourced exception rather than leaving it at that: Breeding Bird Survey trend data show the Panhandle running distinctly lower than the rest of the state.
The federal survey cannot say whether Nebraska dove numbers are rising or falling. Its 2016 to 2025 estimate comes out at 0.85% per year, but the range around it runs from -0.63% to +2.46%, wide enough in both directions that no direction can be called. Read that as unknown, not as steady. The figures also run through 2025, one season behind this fall.
