Maine's official season table lists bobwhite quail only as part of a combined 'Ruffed Grouse & Bobwhite Quail' administrative row, with no established wild population and no state stocking program (unlike pheasant). The biological backdrop is well established: southern Maine sits at the extreme historical northern edge of the species' native range (the species' range description extends into southern Ontario and southern Maine), but no current self-sustaining wild population is documented anywhere in the state, and northern climate (cold, deep snow) is cited as a limiting factor that has historically prevented any released or remnant birds from establishing. No release or introduction program specific to Maine is documented, so there is no release geography to anchor a region.
