Statewide season.Quail hunters must wear a minimum of a Hunter Orange or Blaze Pink hat/cap. Separate from wild season: Bird Dog Training Areas (BDTA) allow release-and-take of pen-raised bobwhite under permit (max 6 quail or mallards/day); wild quail taken on a BDTA counts toward that 6-bird limit.
Gated by LDWF's Fall Bobwhite Whistle Survey (FBWS, 54 routes statewide since 1983), explicitly designed to forecast fall hunting abundance. Re-confirmed 2026-08-19: FBWS fieldwork itself runs late October-early November, which hasn't opened yet — no 2026 result can exist this early, distinct from most other combos in this batch where fieldwork has already happened but the report hasn't published. No fixed historical publish-date pattern was found for results once fieldwork completes.
