Statewide season outside Wildlife Management Areas.Quail may also be taken during archery, crossbow, and muzzleloading gun seasons using those seasons' respective methods of take. WMA seasons/dates/bag limits may differ from the statewide season -- consult individual WMA brochures. Quail-enhancement-area hunt dates at Apalachicola, Blackwater, Jennings Forest, and Three Lakes WMAs for the 2027 portion of the cycle were not yet published as of 2026-08-18 (FWC says available mid-December 2026); this note is about those specific enhancement-area hunts only, not the statewide season, which is already published.
FWC runs no distribution survey or forecast for bobwhite quail (its Upland Ecosystem Restoration Project is habitat restoration/landowner outreach), but three independent lines of evidence converge on the same regional answer: the strongest wild quail populations concentrate in the Florida Panhandle and north-central Florida (specifically named around Tallahassee, Lake City, and Ocala). This is the Florida end of the Red Hills region, reputed to hold the world's largest concentration of private wild quail plantations, spanning north Florida and southwest Georgia between the Ochlockonee and Aucilla Rivers, anchored by Tallahassee and Thomasville, GA, and it is corroborated independently by FWC's own quail-enhancement-area program, which runs its public quota hunts specifically at Apalachicola and Blackwater WMAs (both Panhandle) and Jennings Forest WMA (north-central Florida), with Three Lakes WMA (central Florida) as the outlier enhancement site further south.
No formal population survey program exists for this species in this state.
