Wisconsin pheasant stocking dates and sites for fall 2026, from WDNR's own list: 82 sites, all on WDNR's stocking rules, no dates published.
Read the 7 caveats before you goPheasant stocking
Depending on production levels, pheasants are released once prior to the pheasant hunting season and then twice a week for the first two to three weeks of the season. After that, birds are released about once a week until the 9-day gun deer season.
Stocking will take place over a six-week period. Pre-stocking efforts will begin the week of Oct. 12 to ensure birds are on the landscape for the pheasant hunting season opener on Oct. 17, 2026.
An additional cost-saving measure for the 2026 pheasant stocking includes shortening the stocking season to end on Nov. 19, 2026. The late season stocking that is normally scheduled for late December will not occur this year.
The bag limit is one rooster daily Oct. 17-18 and two roosters daily for the remainder of the season.
Shooting hours begin at 9 a.m. on the first day of pheasant season.
During transportation from the field, the head or one fully feathered wing must remain attached to any pheasant carcass that was dressed in the field.
WDNR's stocking page still carries a late-season list headed 2026 that describes the 2025 December stocking. The 2026 news release says there will be no late-December stocking this year.
sourceWDNR's numbers are the proposed stocking level for each property. Actual releases can differ, so treat them as a guide to how heavily a property is stocked.
sourceWDNR gives two different weekends for the one-bird limit on hen and rooster areas. The regulations say the first Saturday and Sunday of the season (Oct. 17 and 18); the stocking page says Oct. 19 and 20. Applies to: C.D. (Buzz) Besadny Fish And Wildlife Area, Richard Bong State Recreation Area, Tom Lawin Wildlife Area, Avoca Unit, Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit, Vernon Wildlife Area, Sand Creek Fishery Area-Monroe Co., Kickapoo Valley Reserve State Natural Area.
WDNR's sources disagree on when the 2 p.m. closure starts at Richard Bong: the property page closes hunting at 2 p.m. from the second day of the season, the regulations say after Oct. 18, and the pheasant page says after Oct. 19. Plan on 2 p.m. from Oct. 18. Applies to: Richard Bong State Recreation Area.
WDNR marks Beilfuss Unit, Navarino, Gardner Swamp and County Farm - Maple Hills Recreation Area as stocked by Day-old Chick clubs rather than by the DNR. Ask the local wildlife manager how and when birds go out there. Applies to: Beilfuss Unit, Navarino Wildlife Area, Gardner Swamp Wildlife Area, County Farm - Maple Hills Recreation Area.
sourceWDNR's stocking tool lists a Walworth County property only as "Kmsu" and its map doesn't show it, so its location here is the county's center. Ask WDNR which property it is before you go. Applies to: Kmsu.
sourceWDNR's stocking tool lists Statewide Wildlife Habitat - Dodge twice with different details. Its map shows one property for both. Applies to: Statewide Wildlife Habitat - Dodge.
82 sites in WDNR's order, by area. A permit tag marks a date or site that is permit-only; “Permit days” links to WDNR's rule.
