Recorded 2026 · Trending up

Washington's band-tailed pigeon season runs September 15-23, 2026, statewide, daily bag 2/possession 6, under the same migratory-game-bird framework covering duck, coot, snipe, and mourning dove. Washington is part of the Pacific Coast population, monitored by the cooperative Mineral Site Survey, and that survey's 23-year trend for Washington specifically is up 2.8% per year, the strongest individual-state reading anywhere in the federal report and well ahead of the Pacific Coast population as a whole (up 1.7% per year). A separate federal survey (Breeding Bird Survey) shows no clear trend for Washington either way over the same period, but the Mineral Site Survey is the better-suited instrument for this population.

A real, statistically significant upward trend on the Mineral Site Survey (Washington's own 23-year read, not just the regional average), the more sensitive of the two federal survey instruments for this population.
