SD GFP's own species page states no wild/established chukar population persists in South Dakota; hunters occasionally encounter released or escaped birds only. The regulated season exists (combined with gray partridge, identical dates and bag) but is functionally moot for wild-bird hunting.
No self-sustaining wild population exists anywhere in South Dakota; the only specific record is a single photographed escapee in Minnehaha County in 2006. South Dakota's regulated chukar season exists only because the state bundles chukar with gray/Hungarian partridge under one shared bag limit, an administrative artifact, not a biological population.
