Rhode Island's bobwhite quail hunting exists entirely on the same put-and-take stocked management-area network as ring-necked pheasant: the season runs concurrent with the general pheasant season on stocked management areas. There is no wild, self-sustaining bobwhite population in Rhode Island. Quail here are pen-raised birds released onto the same 11 state-managed Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) used for the pheasant stocking program: Arcadia, Black Hut, Big River, Buck Hill, Carolina, Durfee Hill, Eight Rod Farm, Great Swamp, Nicholas Farm, Sapowet Marsh, and Simmons Mill Pond. This is a stocking-driven access pattern rather than a naturally occurring density gradient.
