Statewide open.Bag is separate (not aggregated) from chukar despite sharing the same season dates.
Gray (Hungarian) partridge shares its season and the same three named best-population regions with chukar, Clearwater, Magic Valley, and Southwest, per IDFG's own hunting-information page, but occupies a distinctly different niche within them. Where chukar is a specialist of steep, arid, rocky canyon terrain, IDFG describes gray partridge as often found in close proximity to chukars and adjacent to cultivated land across Idaho, favoring farmland edges over bare rock and canyon slope. This is the same shared-zone pattern documented in other states (a regulatory pairing that doesn't mean identical real distributions). Gray partridge's own range within the three named regions skews toward agricultural valley bottoms and field margins rather than the canyon rims chukar prefers.
Idaho's gray (Hungarian) partridge season runs statewide from September 15, 2026 through January 31, 2027, with a daily bag of 8 and 24 in possession, tracked separately from chukar despite sharing the same season dates. IDFG's statewide forecast, published September 4, 2026, reports recruitment down in two of the three regions where it covers this species: a hot, dry summer likely reduced recruitment in the Clearwater region, and the Magic Valley region saw recruitment down with few broods observed. The Southwest region was mixed, with fewer broods overall but larger ones where they were found. The Panhandle's partridge population remains uncommon outside its southern edge.
Reduced brood recruitment in the Clearwater and Magic Valley regions, tied to a hot, dry summer and the drought affecting much of southern Idaho this year.
