GA regulations refer to this simply as "Quail" (bobwhite is the only quail species present in Georgia). Public-land bag limit is 3 per person unless a specific WMA/area listing states otherwise. Separate falconry season Oct. 1, 2026 – Mar. 15, 2027, 12/day. 2026-27 opener (Nov. 14) shifted later than 2025-26's Nov. 8 opener, confirming this is freshly-set data for the new cycle, not recycled.
WRD's own Bobwhite Quail Initiative (BQI), running since 1999, gives a direct, agency-sourced region: BQI initially "focused efforts in 15-upper coastal plain counties" and has since expanded restoration efforts to "all or parts of 68-Upper Coastal Plain counties," selected via a Tall Timbers/WRD collaborative landscape analysis. Within that broad Coastal Plain region, the crown-jewel private-land concentration is the Red Hills/Plantation Belt in the state's southwest corner -- the Albany-Thomasville corridor, home to more than 80 private quail plantations and described as having "the greatest percentage of bobwhite quail in the world" on its longleaf-pine habitat, anchored by the Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center at Ichauway (Baker County). WRD's own public quota-hunt WMAs for quail (Silver Lake, Di-Lane, Chickasawhatchee) are scattered across the broader Upper Coastal Plain rather than clustered only in the southwest corner -- Di-Lane, for example, sits in the Augusta area, well east of the Red Hills.
No formal population survey program exists for this species in this state.
