Present in NH (White Mountain National Forest and Coos County, mostly above 2500 ft) but a species of conservation concern and not legally huntable in NH. Not listed among NHFG's own eight regulated small-game/upland species. Source: NH Audubon / NH Public Radio (secondary), corroborated by absence from NHFG's official species list.

Awaiting survey — New Hampshire 2026

Not previously tracked in this registry's NH section (added this pass). Species is present in NH (White Mountain National Forest and Coos County, mostly above 2500 ft) as a species of conservation concern, not legally huntable, and not listed among NHFG's own eight regulated small-game/upland species. A fresh search found only a stale 2011 article (Vermont-focused, not NH) and a passing reference to an NHFG biologist's informal winter-survey observation of a “slight uptick” in Coos County grouse numbers over the last decade -- not a discrete, dated NH population survey or forecast product; the dedicated regional spruce grouse monitoring work found is Vermont's, not NH's own. Lower-confidence no_program call, flagged explicitly since no NHFG confirmed-absence statement was found -- only an absence of program evidence.
