MD DNR's own species page describes woodcock as found throughout Maryland in spring and summer, with most of the population migrating to the southeastern U.S. for winter but some birds overwintering on the Eastern Shore specifically. Unlike ruffed grouse, which is confined to a single western region, woodcock genuinely spans two distinct parts of the state. DNR names two specifically managed young-forest WMAs on opposite sides of the state as its own habitat-investment anchors: Millington WMA on the Eastern Shore and Mt. Nebo WMA in western Maryland. Independent hunting-press sourcing adds a third dimension, describing woodcock migration as following riparian corridors statewide (e.g. along the Potomac at McKee-Beshers WMA in central Maryland) rather than concentrating in only one region.
