This state's classification carries no date range for the species.
Present but no open season.Population persists near Salmon, ID from a 1917 introduction.
Gambel's quail exists in Idaho as a single small, isolated, non-huntable population. IDFG's own upland game brochure states plainly that Gambel's quail was introduced near Salmon in 1917 and that a population still exists there, and the season remains closed statewide. Independent sourcing narrows this to the Lemhi River valley specifically, with the population described as best established along the Lemhi River and only scattered vagrant records elsewhere in eastern and western Idaho with no confirmed breeding. This is a well-documented, geographically concentrated introduction, even though the season is closed.
No formal population survey program exists for this species in this state.
