No wild chukar population has ever existed in Alaska. One introduction was tried, 17 birds released in the Matanuska Valley in 1938, and all of them were dead within five years; none has been attempted since. Chukar appears in Alaska's regulations only inside an undifferentiated 'feral non-native game birds' catch-all, which is why the season reads as open with no bag limit. The birds occasionally reported around Fairbanks are escaped hobbyist stock, not a population.
