Introduced to CA in the early 1900s but never established a self-sustaining wild population. CA's legal definition of 'resident small game' (T14 CCR Section 257) nominally names 'Hungarian partridges' alongside 'red-legged partridges, including the chukar and other varieties' as one combined legal category, but CDFW's 2026-27 regulations publish no separate season for it anywhere in the 117-page document -- only chukar has an actual season.
