American woodcock's range is eastern/central North America; it does not occur in California except as an extreme rare vagrant (a single documented bird at Iron Mountain Pumping Plant, San Bernardino County, Nov 1998). CDFW's full 2026-2027 regulations document (117 pages, covering all upland and migratory game birds) does not mention the species anywhere -- there is no CA season, open or closed, to report.
